Palestinian Fiber Optic Cable Installation

Palestine has significantly expanded its fiber optic network, with over 327,000 FTTH subscribers by 2025, driven primarily by Mada Al-Arab's nationwide deployment. Fiber Optic Deployment in PalestinePalestine's fiber optic infrastructure has been steadily growing, particularly in the West Bank.

Mada Al-

Arab, established in 2010, has built a nationwide fiber optic network delivering high-speed FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and FTTX services to individuals and businesses across all Palestinian governorates in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The company connects globally through international gateways in London and Frankfurt, ensuring robust connectivity despite the lack of independent undersea cables. In 2022, Mada received a license from the Palestinian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to build and operate fiber optic networks, enabling it to provide a wide range of telecommunications services, including data transfer and internet services.

Growth and Adoption

By the end of 2022, over 51,700 subscribers were connected to fiber-optic broadband, marking the beginning of a broader transition from traditional DSL connections. This growth accelerated, and by 2025, FTTH subscriptions reached approximately 327,000 users, a 27% increase compared to 2024. The expansion reflects a shift toward more efficient and reliable digital infrastructure, supporting the development of e-government services and the digital economy in Palestine.

Challenges in Gaza

Despite these advances, Gaza faces significant connectivity challenges. Internet access remains heavily dependent on Israeli-controlled infrastructure, including fiber optic lines and spectrum allocation. Many residents experience weak coverage, frequent outages, and limited mobile network reliability, with only 11% having stable internet access in 2025.

Political and infrastructural constraints, including past attacks on telecom infrastructure, continue to hinder the full deployment of fiber networks in Gaza.

Strategic Importance

The fiber optic rollout is central to Palestine's digital transformation. It enables higher-speed internet, supports businesses, educational institutions, and humanitarian coordination, and reduces reliance on older copper-based DSL networks. Mada's strategic partnerships, including with the Palestine Investment Fund and Bank of Palestine, have strengthened financial and operational capacity to expand and maintain these networks.

In summary, Palestine's fiber optic installation represents a major step toward modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure, with significant progress in the West Bank and ongoing efforts to overcome challenges in Gaza, aiming to enhance connectivity, digital services, and economic development across the territories.
