Placement and wiring of distribution box

The distribution box should be installed at an accessible height, in a dry and ventilated area, with wires neatly arranged according to color coding and proper terminal connections.

Placement and Positioning

Height: For residential setups, the ideal height is around 1. 5 meters above the ground; industrial boxes may vary depending on surrounding equipment and space. Environment: Install in dry, accessible areas away from water, flammable, explosive, or corrosive substances.

Outdoor installations require waterproof boxes and optional rain covers. Accessibility: Ensure the box is easy to reach for maintenance and future upgrades, with sufficient space around it for ventilation and heat dissipation.

Wiring Connections

Wire Color Coding: Phase wires: A phase (yellow), B phase (green), C phase (red)Neutral wire: BlueGround wire: Green/yellow striped Wire Specification: Use appropriate wire gauge based on load: typically 2. 5mm² for lighting and sockets, 2. 5–4.

0mm² for air conditioning circuits. Connection Method: Connect incoming wires to the main terminals: phase to phase, neutral to neutral, ground to ground. Branch circuits connect to their respective breakers, with wiring from the main breaker to branch breakers generally on the left, and outgoing wiring on the right.

Neat Arrangement: Secure wires with plastic ties, maintain uniform spacing, avoid tangling, and leave space for heat dissipation.

Installation Steps

Mark and Drill: Mark the installation points on the wall, drill holes, and insert expansion bolts. Mount the Box: Fix the box securely, ensuring it is level and stable. Wire Preparation: Strip insulation to the correct length, avoiding too long or too short exposed conductors.

Terminal Connection: Crimp or screw wires tightly to terminals for good conductivity. Circuit Breakers: Install breakers according to load requirements, ensuring each circuit has proper protection devices like fuses or surge protectors. Labeling: Clearly mark each circuit for easy identification and future maintenance.

Safety Checks

Power Off: Always ensure the main power is disconnected before starting. Insulation Test: Use an insulation resistance tester to verify proper insulation between wires and the box. Continuity Test: Check circuit continuity and verify that breakers and fuses match ratings.

Final Inspection: Confirm all connections are tight, wires are correctly routed, and there are no short circuits or overload risks. Following these guidelines ensures a safe, reliable, and maintainable distribution box installation that complies with electrical standards and allows for future system expansion.
