Method of Connecting Secondary Box for Optical Fiber Cable

Connecting a secondary optical fiber box involves careful cable preparation, fiber splicing, and secure sealing to ensure signal integrity and environmental protection. Step 1: Selecting and Preparing the LocationChoose a location for the secondary box that is accessible for maintenance and protected from environmental hazards. For outdoor installations, ensure the box is mounted on a stable surface, such as a wall, pole, or inside a distribution cabinet.

Indoor installations can be in a central computer room, floor wiring box, or weak current well. Ensure the mounting height and position allow easy access to the fibers and minimize bending stress. Step 2: Preparing the Optical Fiber CableMark the cable at the point where it will enter the secondary box.

Remove the outer sheath carefully using a saw or triangle file, exposing the inner fibers. Trim the strengthening members (metal or aramid yarn) to the required length and secure them with screws or clamps to prevent movement. Clean the exposed fibers to remove dust or debris before splicing.

Step 3: Installing the Cable in the BoxFeed the fibers through the transportation tube or cable entry port. Slide the tube over the metal loose tube if present, then clean and abrade the cable cylinder clamp and closure ports. Remove the loose tube to expose the bare fibers for splicing.

Step 4: Fiber Splicing and ManagementOrganize excess fiber in neat loops and store them in designated splice trays. Perform fusion splicing to join fibers, ensuring minimal signal loss. Protect the splices with heat-shrink tubes or protective sleeves.

Coil fibers from the bottom to the top of the tray to maintain order and prevent stress on the fibers. Step 5: Sealing and Closing the BoxCover the base port and cable with heat-shrink tubes. Apply an aluminum film if required and heat until the tube shrinks, forming an airtight seal.

Close the box with a clamp or locking mechanism. Use Velcro strips to secure splice trays and prevent movement inside the box. Step 6: Mechanical and Environmental ConsiderationsAvoid sharp bends; maintain the minimum bend radius specified for the fiber.

Ensure the box is weatherproof for outdoor installations. Minimize mechanical stress on the cable and fibers during installation. For aerial installations, ensure proper tensioning and secure attachment to poles or supports.

Step 7: Testing and VerificationAfter installation, perform optical testing such as OTDR or power meter measurements to verify signal integrity and confirm that splices and connections are functioning correctly. By following these steps, the secondary optical fiber box will be properly connected, ensuring reliable signal transmission, protection from environmental factors, and ease of future maintenance.
