How to connect the plug to the fiber optic panel

Proper insertion of a fiber optic panel plug requires careful preparation, alignment, and secure connection to minimize signal loss and protect the fiber.

Preparation and Tools

Before inserting a fiber optic plug, gather the necessary tools: fiber strippers, cleaver, crimping pliers, UV or epoxy glue, fiber holders, magnifying microscope, and anhydrous alcohol for cleaning. Inspect the fiber for damage, kinks, or bends, and ensure the end-face is clean and free of dust, as contamination is the leading cause of signal loss. Inserting the Fiber into the ConnectorInsert the Boot and Riveting Ring: Slide the connector boot and riveting ring onto the fiber cable before any other steps.

Apply Glue: Inject UV or epoxy glue into the connector ferrule from the tail handle until it slightly overflows. Cleave the Fiber: Strip the protective coating and cleave the fiber to the correct length using a fiber cleaver. Place the Fiber: Carefully insert the cleaved fiber into the connector ferrule, ensuring it is fully seated.

Use a fiber holder to stabilize the fiber during this process. Cure the Glue: Use a UV lamp to cure the glue on the ferrule end-face for 10 seconds at a distance of 1–3 cm. Lock the Fiber: Push the push tube forward to secure the fiber, slide the riveting ring up, and tighten the rear housing to secure the strength members.

Polishing and Final Steps

After insertion, polish the connector end-face if it is not pre-polished.

Use UP

C (Ultra Physical Contact) for standard connections or APC (Angled Physical Contact) for reduced back reflection. Clean the end-face again and place a dust cap on the connector to prevent contamination.

Safety and Handling Tips

Never look directly into the fiber when a light source is active to avoid eye damage. Maintain proper bend radius (>30 mm) to prevent fiber breakage. Avoid touching the ferrule end-face and always use dust caps on unused ports.

Ensure proper alignment with the panel adapter (SC, LC, or MPO) and push or rotate the connector according to its type (push-pull for SC/LC, keyed for MPO) to achieve a secure connection. Following these steps ensures a low-loss, reliable connection that maintains high-speed data transmission and network integrity.
