How to build Revit cable trays

Cable trays in Revit MEP can be created by selecting the appropriate type, setting dimensions and offsets, and routing them through your project using Revit's system tools. Step 1: Set Up Cable Tray TypesGo to the Systems tab and select Cable Tray. Choose between Cable Tray with Fittings or Cable Tray without Fittings.

It is recommended to use with fittings for more flexible routing. Click Edit Type to adjust parameters such as width, height, bend radius, and routing preferences. You can also specify vertical and horizontal bends, T-junctions, and reducers.

Step 2: Place Cable TraysSelect the reference level and set the offset from that level. Positive offsets place the tray above the reference, negative offsets below. Click in the plan view to start drawing the cable tray.

Drag along the desired path, similar to drawing conduit, and click to place bends or junctions. Adjust the tray's position if it conflicts with other elements, such as lights or ducts. Step 3: Routing and FittingsUse the routing preferences to automatically insert bends and junctions where needed.

For vertical transitions, use the vertical bend fittings or rotate the tray in a section/elevation view to position it vertically. Ensure the tray follows the intended path while avoiding clashes with other MEP systems. Step 4: Vertical Cable TraysDraw the cable tray in plan view.

Switch to a section or elevation view to see the tray from the side. Use the Rotate tool to rotate the tray vertically, aligning it with walls or other vertical elements. Step 5: Final AdjustmentsVerify the tray's height, width, and side references to ensure proper clearance and alignment.

Use 3D views to check the overall routing and make adjustments as necessary. Save your project and review the tray layout for any conflicts with other systems. By following these steps, you can efficiently create and manage cable trays in Revit MEP, ensuring proper routing, fitting placement, and vertical or horizontal alignment throughout your project.
