Wiring of power cables in distribution box

Connect the phase, neutral, and earth wires from the main power supply to the main MCB, RCCB, and bus bars in the distribution box following proper safety and sequencing protocols.

Step-by-

Step Wiring Process1. Safety First Before starting, ensure the main power supply is turned off. Use insulated tools and wear protective gear to prevent electric shock.

Verify that the supply is disconnected using a voltage tester. 2. Identify Components in the Distribution Box A typical single-phase distribution box includes: Main MCB (Double Pole) – acts as the main switch and protects the entire system.

RCCB/RCD – protects against current leakage and electric shock.

Single Pole MC

Bs – protect individual circuits or loads. Neutral and Earth Links – distribute neutral and earth connections to subcircuits. 3.

Connect the Incoming Power Supply

The phase (live) and neutral wires from the utility or energy meter are connected to the input terminals of the main MCB. The earth wire from the supply should be connected to the earth link in the distribution box. 4.

Connect the Main MCB to RCCB

From the output terminals of the main MCB, connect the phase and neutral wires to the input of the RCCB. This ensures that all downstream circuits are protected against leakage currents. 5.

Connect RCC

B to Load MCBsFor double-pole MCBs: connect both phase and neutral from the RCCB output to the MCB input. For single-pole MCBs: connect only the phase wire from the RCCB output to the MCB input. Connect the neutral wire from the RCCB output to the neutral bus bar.

Connect the earth wire to the earth bus bar. 6.

Connect Load Circuits

For each load connected to a DP MCB, connect the phase and neutral terminals of the load to the MCB output, and the earth to the earth link. For loads connected to SP MCBs, connect the phase to the MCB output, and neutral and earth to their respective bus bars. 7.

Verify Connections and Earthing

Ensure all connections are tight and properly insulated. Confirm that the earth wire is connected to an earth pit or rod to provide proper grounding. Double-check that the phase, neutral, and earth wires are correctly routed to prevent short circuits or leakage.

8.

Power On and Test

Once all connections are verified, turn on the main supply. Test each MCB and RCCB to ensure proper operation and protection. Following this sequence ensures that the distribution box is wired safely, with all protective devices functioning correctly, and that power is distributed efficiently to all circuits in the building.
