Cable connection to main distribution box

The main cable is connected to the distribution box via the main MCB or isolator, then routed through protective devices to branch circuits, with neutral and earth distributed through dedicated links.

Incoming Power Connection

The main power supply, consisting of phase (live) and neutral wires, is first connected to the main MCB or isolator in the distribution box. This main switch serves as the primary control point for the entire electrical system and allows manual disconnection of power for safety during maintenance or emergencies. In some setups, the supply may pass through an energy meter before reaching the main isolator.

Distribution Through Protective Devices

From the main MCB, the phase wire is routed to an RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker), which protects against current leakage and electric shock. The neutral wire from the main supply is connected to a neutral link, which distributes neutral to all subcircuits.

The RCC

B output then feeds the branch MCBs, which protect individual circuits from overloads or short circuits. For double-pole MCBs, both phase and neutral are connected to the MCB input; for single-pole MCBs, only the phase is connected, while the neutral is routed via the neutral link.

Neutral and Earth Connections

The neutral link distributes the neutral wire to all single-pole MCBs, while the earth link connects the earth wire from the supply, the loads, and the metallic body of the distribution box to the grounding system or earth pit. Proper earthing is essential for safety and to prevent electric shock.

Wiring Practices

Wiring direction: Typically, wiring from the main circuit breaker to branch breakers is on the left, and outgoing circuits are on the right. Wire management: Wires should be bound with plastic ties, spaced uniformly, and clearly marked for phase, neutral, and earth. Safety checks: After connections, verify with a multimeter to ensure no short circuits or loose connections exist.

By following this method, the main cable is safely and efficiently connected to the distribution box, ensuring proper power distribution and protection for all subcircuits.
